RE Day at Woodston!

A full day was spent immersed in learning about different faiths and beliefs.

On Friday 6th December, all the pupils at Woodston school took part in RE day. Pupils learned about different faiths and how people’s choice of faith affects the choices they make in their daily lives.

Year 1 explored the theme of celebrations in Hinduism and Christianity. The question: ‘What is Christmas?’ helped Year 2 to explore the reasons behind giving and receiving, including the simple gifts of a smile, kind words or a hug. They also compared the religious and non-religious traditions of Christmas in Australia, Mexico and the UK.

The children in Year 3 learned about what Christians believe, and compared some of the different denominations in the UK. Year 4 pupils explored and compared sacred stories from 3 different religions (Sikhism, Christianity and Judaism).

Year 5 began the day by comparing church buildings and how Christians worship in different parts of the world. Later in the day, they researched facts about Malala Yousafzai and how her beliefs have impacted today’s society. The children in Year 6 learned about the story of Siddhartha Gautama and how he became known as the Buddha.
