KS1 and Early Years:
Phonics:
We use Little Wandle as the main resource and structure to teach phonics in EYFS & KS1. Based on regular assessments, children are taught in whole class groups, led by teachers. The children complete a reading carousel three times a week led by teachers and TAs. Literacy and English planning takes into account the phonic knowledge of the children. Year 1 & 2 children are also introduced to the relevant Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar (SPAG) requirements of the National Curriculum as part of their phonics and English work.

Reading:
All classrooms have a variety of books for the children to access in school. Children also take books home to read from reading schemes and the library. There are a variety of books from different reading schemes, all of which are organised according to Book Bands. Children begin with phonically decodable books, matched to their phonic ability. Children working at a prereading level access books with no words, alongside a library book.
