Year 1's Great Burghley Adventure
Please enter an introduction for your news story here.
On Wednesday 5th June, Year 1 had a very exciting adventure to Burghley House in Stamford. On arriving we received a very warm welcome to the site and after storing our bags in a safe place, the classes took turns at different activities. One of the activities was to explore the beautiful sculpture garden with many different types of flowers and some very interesting sculptures.
The main activity of the day was the plant workshop. During this time, the children learnt about different types of trees including deciduous and evergreen and the seasonal changes that happen during the year. They also found out how seeds are dispersed. They learnt about the different parts of the plant including roots, stem, leaf and flower.
All of the children enjoyed exploring the adventure playground and very soon it was time to walk back to the coach ready for the return journey to school. In our science lessons, we will continue learning about trees and plants and are very excited to watch the seeds that we planted last week grow into plants.
Children always say it best, so here is what they had to say about their visit:
“It was amazing because we had a play on the adventure playground.”
“I loved the drop slide, it was really scary and fast!”
“Some leaves are big and different shapes!”
